While P's class didn't celebrate Halloween, they did participate in the school-wide Book Character Day. P went dressed as Cole, the black ninja from the Lego Ninjago series, and the book he took along was
Rise of the Snakes.
About two thirds of P's class dressed up, and I snapped a group photo before the book character parade started.
The students who chose not to dress up, the parents and family members who were visiting, and the staff at the school were the audience for the parade. Each class lined up, walked to the microphone, and students individually had their turn to introduce themselves and their character, and then name the book from which they selected their character.
C took my camera about a third of the way through the parade and amused himself by taking pictures of his surroundings... and his "Peter Pan boots". {C dressed up as Peter Pan and brought his book to P's school. He initially planned to march in the parade with P's class, but changed his mind just before the special events started.}
This picture melts my heart. It's one of those "mom moments" I never want to forget. When we got back to P's class for the "Book Character" party, P grabbed an extra chair and put it right beside his, then helped C get settled. The boys are such good friends! C was - of course - thrilled to be included with "the big kids".
Happy Book Character Day!
