a piano recital with a twist

We were planning for an event on the evening of June 5th.

Then, on the playground at school the afternoon of June 5th, this happened:

When the doctor came back from reading the x-ray to splint P's thumb, he asked, "Can I still play the piano in my recital tonight, and my baseball game tomorrow? Also, how will I write things for the last three days of school?"

P was determined, so he came straight home from the doctor and got to work changing the fingering in his piano pieces so he could play them with a damaged thumb. He was able to make one of them work. I was so proud of him when he stepped on stage and performed mere hours after his injury!

His teacher was so sweet about the whole thing! We left her a message, but she didn't get it before the recital, so she was surprised to see P with a splint Friday night! She wanted to be sure that he could play without hurting himself, and she made an announcement before he played {at P's request, so people would know that if he made mistakes it wasn't because he hadn't practiced!}.

At the end of the night, P and Miss Sally were both still able to smile!
